Canon expands its accessory range with a clever new remote and microphone
Canon just announced a new remote controller and a microphone for Canon cameras, expanding its accessory offering for both photography and video. The new DM-E10D microphone works directly from your camera’s hot shoe, while the TC-N3 remote controller adds advanced timing controls like time-lapse and long-exposure photography.
The TC-N3 Timer Remote Controller is a cable release that connects to your camera through the proprietary shutter release port, while the TC-E3 version uses the 2.5mm mini-jack port.

Photographers can now set time-lapse and long-exposure sequences, alongside interval shooting. helpful for capturing silky waterfalls and star trails or combining the time-lapse sequences of a slowly opening flower into a short video. The tactile buttons and small backlit LCD screen help when you work in the dark, while the tripod socket makes it easier to keep the controller with your camera setup.
The Canon Microphone DM-E10D is Canon’s smallest hotshoe microphone, weighing only 59g and measuring 53mm; it provides a simple way to upgrade audio for single-person recording where the speaker is close to and directly talking at the camera, like live streaming or vlogging. It records monaural audio, making it particularly suited to spoken content rather than stereo recordings of music or ambient sound.
A supercardioid directional microphone design focuses sound in front of the camera and helps reduce unwanted background noise. A dedicated menu button provides quick access to the camera’s internal audio settings during recording. It is powered and controlled directly from the compatible Canon Multi-function Shoe cameras, eliminating the need for a separate transmitter and receiver and simplifying the setup.
