How to Prepare Your Venue for Your Photographer

How to Prepare Your Venue for Your Photographer

Photographers get asked to work in every kind of space imaginable, from a tidy studio to a venue mid-setup an hour before guests arrive. The venue itself rarely needs to be perfect, but a small amount of preparation before the photographer walks in makes a real difference in how smoothly the shoot goes and how the finished photos turn out. This is worth sharing with any client hosting a session or event at their own space or a rented venue.

Lighting is the one variable that shapes every photo taken in the space, and it is also the easiest thing to get right with a little planning. If there is natural light, note which windows get the best light and at what time of day, and share that with your photographer ahead of time. If the space relies on overhead or artificial lighting, check that bulbs are working and consider whether any fixtures cast an unflattering color cast, since fluorescent and certain LED lighting can shift skin tones in ways that are hard to correct afterward.
