If you’re looking for a proper camera, then this is one of the cheapest – and it’s from a big brand!

The Canon EOS 100 is a small, portable mirrorless camera that delivers consistently attractive JPEG files, with well-judged colour and exposure. If you don’t need a lens or other extras, we have never seen it cheaper thanks to this Amazon US deal

You can also record video at 4K, albeit with a crop, making it a good choice if you want to do more video. You can now get a Canon EOS R100 body for $499 with the RF-S18-45mm F4.5-6.3 lens, which is very good value.

Furthermore, the Canon EOS R100 would also make a great back-up camera or a gift to a newbie-photographer friend or relation.

At a glance:

• 24.1MP APS-C CMOS sensor
• ISO 100-12,800; ISO 25,600 (extended)
• 6.5 fps shooting (3.5fps with C-AF)
• 2.36m-dot, 0.59x OLED EVF
• 3in, 1.04m-dot fixed LCD
• 4K video recording at 25fps

Don’t forget, the camera takes some of the best Canon RF lenses too, so it’s a flexible choice; you can spend some of the money you saved on the camera on some decent glass. See our original review of the Canon EOS R100 here.
