Viltrox completes its F1.4 lens trio with the new AF 35mm F1.4 Pro for full-frame Nikon Z and Sony E
Viltrox has announced the AF 35mm F1.4 Pro, the third lens in a trio of large-aperture primes. Sitting alongside the Viltrox AF 50mm F1.4 Pro and the Viltrox AF 85mm F1.4 Pro, this full-frame lens is available for Nikon Z and Sony FE mounts.
With a classic focal length long beloved by street, press and documentary photographers, the AF 35mm F1.4 Pro features an optical construction of 16 elements in 11 groups. It’s designed to be a similar size and weight to the 50mm and the 85mm, making it easy for users to swap quickly between the lenses for different situations.
The lens is weather-sealed with a scratch-resistant matte black finish and rubber seals. An eleven-bladed aperture allows users to make the most of the F1.4 aperture to produce images with smooth bokeh in the defocused areas of images, and the minimum focus distance is 0.3m for close-up work.

While of course we’ll have to get our hands on the lens ourselves to assess Viltrox’s claims, early signs are promising. The first two lenses in the trio received glowing reports in our reviews – our on-hand lens expert Angela Nicholson described the AF 50mm F1.4 Pro as ‘a budget 50mm lens that doesn’t compromise on image quality’, and the AF 85mm F1.4 Pro as ‘a highly capable tool for portrait photographers’.
The optical assemblage of the new AF 35mm F1.4 Pro includes: two UA (Ultra-Precision Aspherical) elements to reduce ‘onion ring’ bokeh and render backgrounds smoothly and naturally; three ED (Extra-low Dispersion) elements to reduce axial chromatic aberration and colour fringing; and four HR (High Refractive Index) elements to aid portability without sacrificing optical performance.
